More Mischief
Notes on graduation from a 20-foot open sloop named Mischief to a 34-foot Pacific Seacraft cutter christened Mischief II.

Getting Into More Mischief
<= ancient 10 hp outboard that often started
34 hp diesel that might grow algae in its fuel=>
<= no thru- hulls 14 thru-hulls (that we've found so far) =>

<= jiffy reefing system that we installed ourselves
inscrutable reefing system installed by previous owner =>

<= 10 kg Bruce anchor that we lowered by hand
15 kg ?? anchor lowered by electric windlass with directions in Italian and protected by circuit breaker that we finally found in the quarter berth =>

<= nothing electronic
required 3 batteries upon purchase, all of which will die if we don't treat them right =>

marine head with 3 thru-hulls, a holding tank, and a need to follow rigorous regulations=>
<= bucket

Departure
So…it seems possible that our vessel is finally ready to go after what seems like eons in her berth getting ready.
We thought we were ready a few days ago, when the charger/inverter failed for no reason at all, but we were lucky to find out within a few hours that there was a switch on the bottom that must have been bumped by something, which turned the whole system off. Nothing one couldn’t easily detect while standing on their head in the port cockpit locker. We just hadn’t done that yet.
Then we were stymied by a failure to get the propane tank for our stove recertified, so we couldn’t get it filled, so we were staring at five weeks of cold food and no morning coffee! We worked around that by giving up on it and buying two new, smaller tanks.
We also discovered—fortuitously, before leaving the dock—that we were so focused on remembering how to use our electronic charts that we had forgotten to bring our old paper ones from home. That required an expensive trip to the chandlery in Nanaimo.
Here’s hoping we will have a picture to post from somewhere else soon.
